Adagio Teas Green Rooibos Bonita Review

18th June 2016

A few weeks ago I was sent some flavoured matcha by Adagio Teas for review and they were generous enough to include some tea for me to review too. I decided I’d break up the reviews in to separate posts, you can find the flavoured matcha review here.

Next up to be reviewed is Green Rooibos Bonita which is a pretty fantastic name! I was really excited to try this blend as green Rooibos is new to me and I LOVE trying new tea! 😃

As soon as I opened the packet I was hit with an array of citrus smells but also a really tropical aroma. Once the leaves have been steeped they produce a vibrant Amber tea which looks very attractive in my glass teaware 😉

I wasn’t sure how the flavour of green Rooibos would compare to red Rooibos but it’s really awesome. It’s less sickly than red Rooibos which I find can be bit overly sweet when it’s paired with some sweeter ingredients. It’s definitely been one of my most drunk teas since it arrived!

There’s quite an obvious peachy taste to this tea as well which is just the right strength and expertly paired with the green Rooibos.

Overall I’d say this is a fantastic tea that’s definitely worth trying if you’re looking for something new to add to your tea collection. It’s very reasonably priced and can be bought in sample size if you wanna try this tea without the commitment of a large pack.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my review and thanks to Adagio for sending me this awesome new tea to try. I have a few more Adagio tea reviews coming up so be sure to check back!

Which tea should I try next? Leave any suggestions you have in the comments below or let me know on Twitter or Instagram.

Bye for now! xXx

Matcha Halloween Zombie, Sugar Skull & Pumpkin Chocolates & Lollies

17th October 2015

With Halloween approaching I decided I’d do some Halloween themed cooking with matcha.Ā Matcha makes the perfect green colour when added to white chocolate which is convenient for zombies and it’s much healthier than food colouring!

I love sugar skulls and zombies, ‘Fear The Walking Dead’ & the return of ‘The Walking Dead’ has made me even more zombie obsessed recently which inspired these chocolates.

There’s not really much of a recipe to be honest, basically just melt some white chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan full of water and then add matcha until the chocolate is the right colour and taste. I’m actually really quite pleased with the results, only downside is some of the matcha chocolate is dotty, not sure why :/

Here’s the finished matcha chocolates and lollies:

Matcha chocolate & lollies

The two colour chocolates were made by pouring the matcha chocolate in first and leaving it to firm up (but not totally set) and then pouring the milk chocolate on top.

I also made some normal white chocolates and orange white chocolate, in a selection of more child friendly shapes:

Orange & White Chocolate

Pumpkin Chocolate Lolly

Anyway that’s the first of my Halloween creations, I have matcha cake pops and doughnuts coming up, both with a Halloween twist! šŸ˜‰

I used Kiss Me Organics Culinary Grade MatchaĀ which I highly recommend for taste and also to produce vivid green colours in your cooking. We used Dr. Oetker food colouring gel for the pumpkins which was worthless, we used an entire tube in the chocolate for two lollies and it was nowhere near the colour we wanted šŸ™

The moulds used are theseĀ Sugar SkullsĀ and these Zombie moulds. You can get the lolly sticks from loads of places but I recently found these Halloween Coloured Lolly SticksĀ which I kinda wish I found before I made these!

Thanks so much for reading, I’d love to hear from anyone who makes these and if you have any questions just hit me up!

Gently Stirred Tea Tasting! Russtea’s Review

19th May 2015

A few days ago I was sent some samples from Gently Stirred.

I opened my package and I was blown away by the care that had gone in to packing this for me. It was beautifully wrapped in green tissue paper and had a string tied in a bow. It looked like a present you’d receive from a good friend and I really fell in love with the presentation and attention to detail of the package. There was also a printed catalogue and small information sheets for each tea, you just don’t get such a personal service anywhere else!

The Flavours

I received Cucumber & Orange Marmalade, which is a black loose tea with character! I was also given a tea bag of Uki Uki which is a black tea with a tropical fruit flavour, amazing or what?! The third tea I sampled was Saint Clement’s Green Tea, this was also in teabag form.

The Taste

Cucumber & Orange Marmalade Bag

Cucumber & Orange Marmalade

I decided to get stuck in straight away with the cucumber and marmalade, I was a little hesitant about the cucumber but also really excited to try something different. The smell of the tea is very strong, it overpowered the smell of the others. The pieces of cucumber and orange are HUGE, I’ve never seen such big bits of fruit in tea before!

I began steepingĀ the tea and watched as the water turned a beautiful amber colour, the cucumber and orange erupted out of the mug. I steeped the tea for 2-3 minutes using one teaspoon of tea and it was just the right strength.

Saint Clement's Teabag

Saint Clement’s Green Tea

This is a gently fragrant tea made using Gently Stirred’s popularĀ Pai Mu Tan as a base. Added to the Pai Mu Tan are oranges, lemons and bergamot oil. Green tea is renowned for it’s health benefits which is an added bonus with Saint Clement’s. It has a slightly floral taste, which usually I’m not a fan of but this was different, it was there just enough to sweeten the blend, without feeling like you’re actually eating flowers.

The tea turned a slightly pink colour and smells fantastic every time you take a sip. I used my teabag 3 times and all three mugs were different, the first was sweetest and then the other 2 were more savoury but just as delicious. The other thing I could detect was a herbal taste which was really lush!

Uki uki

Uki Uki

The third tea was a black tea with tropical fruit called Uki Uki, this was an absoluteĀ dream. Instantly it smells like a tropical paradise, or at least how I’d expect a tropical paradise to smell :p . It tastes so sweet and is so addictive, unbelievably fruity, even to the point where the fruit is stronger than the black tea, which is really rare. There’s also no bitterness, even if it’s steeped to quite a dark strength, I assume this must be due to the sheer amount of the succulent fruit flavour that’s packed in.

My boyfriend said that he felt that the tea had a slight spicyness to it which I didn’t really detect, it became less sweet when we made additional mugs with the same teabag but that’s to be expected, and all of them were immensely pleasant.

Conclusion

Overall I was thrilled with these teas, I love it when I find something a little different and these flavours really are unique. There’s just a handcrafted pleasantly warm feeling to all of three of the teas Gently Stirred sent me. I’d like to thank Gently Stirred for giving me the chance to try these three teas and I urge you to go and check them out!
