Christmas Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine Tea Cocktail Recipe

28th November 2017
Christmas Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine Tea Cocktail Recipe

This year I decided I would like to make a tea based mulled wine recipe that has all the flavour of traditional mulled wine but with no alcohol, using tea instead of the wine.

This recipe uses Whittard of Chelsea Mulled Wine tea as the base, it was the best I tried and really replaces the wine flavour without losing the traditional mulled wine vibe!

Ingredients

Christmas Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine Tea Cocktail Recipe Ingredients
850ml of water
2 teaspoons of Whittard of Chelsea Mulled Wine tea
2 slices of dried orange
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anise
1 teaspoon dried pimento
12 cloves
1 teaspoon cardamom pods
1 teaspoon of dried ginger
3 teaspoons of chopped dried cranberries
3 tablespoons of sugar

Method

Christmas Non-Alcoholic Mulled Wine Tea Cocktail Recipe Method
Measure 850ml of boiled water and use a looseleaf tea infuser to steep the Whittard of Chelsea mulled wine tea in the water for 3 to 4 minutes or longer if you’d prefer a stronger flavour but remember a lot of the flavour comes from the dried ingredients.

Pour the prepared tea into a saucepan and add the dried ingredients and the sugar and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes with the saucepan covered to ensure you don’t boil any of the liquid off.

Check the strength, leaving to simmer for longer if required.

Once the tea is the desired strength use a sieve to strain the liquid, making sure that the mulled wine is free of the dried ingredients. Pour the mulled wine in to festive teaware and enjoy warm!

Merry Christmas!

Bye for now! xXx

Whittard of Chelsea Tea Club Tea Subscription Box Review

25th November 2017
Whittard of Chelsea Tea Club Tea Subscription Box Review

I’ve really been loving tea subscription boxes recently, I love the convenience of awesome tea being delivered without me having to make any effort!

When I started my blog I never imagined that I’d get the opportunity to review Whittard of Chelsea tea, so I was crazily excited when they contacted me to see if I’d like to review their new Tea Club subscription boxes!

First Impressions

The first thing I noticed is how phenomenally their subscription boxes are presented! It’s really nice to see how much effort has gone into the look and feel of the subscription boxes. You receive a Whittard branded ‘tea chest’ with really cute brightly coloured envelopes, one with loose leaf tea bags if you prefer teabags and another with your tasting cards which include pictures of the tea, with information and how to brew it.

The tea sachets themselves are packaged in resealable bags with a printed tea card on the front and wrapped in patterned tissue paper.

Another really nice touch is a Whittard of Chelsea branded stainless steel tea measuring scoop, which is included with your first box so you always know you’re getting the perfect strength tea.

Overall this is one of the best presented tea deliveries I’ve ever received.

The Tea

Strawberry Mint

The first tea I tried was strawberry mint, a herbal infusion that is fantastic hot or cold. The smell of this tea is absolutely magical with a sweet succulent fresh strawberry aroma, and a refreshing mint vibe. The tea is made up mainly of Spearmint but with big chunks of freeze-dried strawberries.

When you add water the fragrance only become stronger and I was pleased to find that the flavour didn’t disappoint. The strawberries smell is so enticing but with a mint twist that isn’t overpowering and adds a really refreshing feel to the tea. Possibly my favourite strawberry tea ever!

Robert Fortune Blend

This is a black tea blend with a nice subtle fruitiness, alongside a traditional black tea flavour. I really enjoy the rich earthy tones of this tea and the fruitiness is great alongside this. I often find more traditional tasting tea a bit boring but this tea is far from boring! It’s a great tea when you want more of it traditional flavour but you want a little bit of excitement too!

Summer Pudding

Summer Pudding is another black tea based blend with a helping of fruitiness. The rich fruity smell bursts from the pack and really does have a pudding-like smell, I couldn’t wait to brew this tea and find out if the taste lived up to the fragrance. I was ecstatic to find out that this tea really tastes as good as it smells, I love to watch the whole berries flow around in the water as the tea steeps. The flavour is like a traditional black tea but with a vibrant Ribena twist, a really fantastic black tea!

Final Thoughts

I was really pleased to find that the Whittard Tea subscription box was amazing through and through! I loved the packaging, the presentation and the amazing teas.

If you’d like to try a Whittard of Chelsea tea subscription box you can find them on their website or you can also buy Summer Pudding, Robert Fortune Blend or Strawberry Mint individually.

A huge thank you to Whittard of Chelsea for sending me their first ’Tea Chest’, it’s been a fantastic experience and I can’t wait to see which teas come next!

Bluebird Tea Co. Exam & Summer Blends Reviewed

23rd May 2017

The last couple of weeks I’ve been finishing my final assignment for the year. This week my focus is shifting to revising for my last exam of the year, it’s been massively stressful!

Luckily, a surprise delivery arrived from Bluebird with limited edition exam blends and suddenly my revision looks a whole lot more exciting! 😊

Review Time!

One In A Melon

First up is a gorgeous green and melon blend! This tea smells incredibly fruity and sweet, I could smell it through the packaging and recently went to Bristol with it in my case and it left my clothes smelling super fruity 😃

Once the water hits the smell is magical, the whole kitchen smells of juicy watermelon. The green tea flavour is lush as you can always expect from Bluebird and the strength of the watermelon flavour is perfect. This is a tea that will clearly be AMAZING iced, I’ll definitely be drinking this iced over the summer once my exams are out of the way😃

Hocus Focus

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this tea and couldn’t imagine what it would taste like after smelling it but I was pleasantly surprised.

The tea produces a deep chocolate coloured brew with extremely satisfying toffee notes. There’s a slight chilli hit that adds a much appreciated element of excitement. An all round good blend but don’t be put off by the smell or you’ll miss a unique and exciting tea!

Summer of Love

This is a blend I was instantly excited about, I love the name and it’s one of the most colourful blends I’ve ever seen! The tea gives off an incredible fruity smell that smells super summery. Bluebird sent me this tea in a 50g pouch which is generously filled as always and is sure to fuel a lot of happy tea sessions 😊

The taste of the green tea element of this blend is fantastic and the fruity flavour is sweet but doesn’t overpower the drier vegetal flavour of the green tea. Another blend I’m sure will be awesome iced and super refreshing on the warmer days of the summer ahead.

Ginger Beer

Ginger beer isn’t a drink I’ve ever really drunk so I wasn’t sure what to expect with this blend but I was definitely intrigued!

The tea is a rooibos based blend which Bluebird are particularly good at making. There’s a really refreshing lime scent which creates a nice lime aftertaste, which is accompanied by a hint of caramel. The ginger flavour is the most noticeable alongside the nutty rooibos goodness, with the combination of lime and ginger creating an almost fizzy mouth feel.

An overall awesome blend from Bluebird which I know I’ll be enjoying regularly 😃

Pineapple Sorbet

As soon as I opened my Bluebird delivery and saw Pineapple Sorbet I couldn’t wait to try it. It literally smells like a sweet shop with a smell that reminds me of pear drops.

It’s another blend that instantly makes you think of summer and the tea itself looks really pretty 😍Pineapple sorbet’s sweetness is perfect to serve iced without needing to add any sugar or honey. I received this blend in pyramid teabags which are generously filled and easily make tea for two. This is one of my favourites from these new Bluebird blends!

All Nighter

All nighter is one of the teas I was most excited to try, due to it being a tea and coffee combo. I really don’t like coffee and wouldn’t ever choose it over tea but it’s a combination I’ve never tried before which is always exciting. It actually smells incredible with a nice roasted coffee scent with green tea and an enticing chocolate hint.

The flavour is real good, definitely better than I expected! The tea flavour takes centre stage and the slight coffee flavour really works, the addition of chocolate is sheer perfection! I also love the name of this blend and I’ve been drinking a ton of it while I’ve been revising 😃

Relax

One thing that I struggle to do when my workload is huge is relax so I was pleased to see a Bluebird blend to help me take a break. Chamomile tea is always welcome in my tea cupboard but I find it’s one of those blends that when it’s bad, it’s really bad! As expected Bluebird’s twist on chamomile tea is one of the best I’ve tried.

It smells mind blowing, with a candy apple sweetness alongside a delicate aroma of white tea. I sometimes receive chamomile tea to review that is really overly floral and not very sweet but the addition of apple and white tea brings the chamomile flavour down a notch. There’s also an addictive honey aftertaste that keeps me coming back for more!

Final Thoughts

All round this is a fantastic delivery from Bluebird with some of my all time favourite Bluebird blends. These teas have been much appreciated during my revision and I know I’ll be drinking the summer blends all through the summer months ahead.

Thanks for taking the time to read my review, if you’d like more from my blog be sure to come find me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram (or all three! 😜).

If you’d like to try these new blends yourself you can find them on Bluebird’s website.

A huge thanks to Bluebird for sending me this awesome delivery 😘

Teatourist Tea Subscription Boxes Reviewed

3rd January 2017

I’ve been interested in signing up for a tea subscription box for a while and have tried one or two in the past. I’m always on the look out for new tea so it really makes sense for me to have a selection delivered each month, plus it’s incredibly exciting!

Teatourist were lovely enough to send me a couple of their boxes for November & December so I thought I’d do a review of my experience and a run down of the 6 teas in each box. Read on to find out how I got on! I also have a discount code to get 30% off your first box which you can find further down the review 🙂

 Review Time!

When the box arrived I was so excited, it fit straight through my door and was waiting for me when I woke up! The packaging is really classy with a box inside a slipcover and the inside of the lid has a stunning hot air balloon photo, it’s a lovely image to see when I dive in for my next tea to try!

I was pleasantly surprised to find 6 teas inside, in the past I’ve only found 3 or 4 teas in subscription boxes so 6 is definitely appreciated. Each tea comes sealed with a card attached with a little bit about the company the blend is from and instructions for steeping, the instructions are really clear so this would be a great introduction to the world of tea for any newcomer.

The selection each month is extremely varied, with herbal blends, black tea, oolong, white tea and rooibos all making an appearance.

November Box

Orange Blossom Oolong – Easy Teasy

The first tea I knew I had to try from the November box was Orange Blossom Oolong. I’m a huge Oolong fan, it’s always refreshing and pairs well with a lot of flavours, there’s not much Oolong I don’t like and there’s also not much Oolong I like as much as Orange Blossom Oolong!

The orangey smell was inviting the second I opened the packet, I knew this was gonna be good! The orange flavour is a sweet orange rather than a citrusy orange which lends itself perfectly to an Oolong blend. It almost has a chocolatey hint to it as well, I couldn’t help thinking of Terry’s Chocolate Orange when I was drinking it, there’s also an enjoyable earl grey vibe to it.

Malawi Peony – Baraka Teas

This was another blend I was really excited about, I adore white peony and was particularly intrigued by the large leaves! Other white peony I’ve tried has had smaller leaves so it was nice to see it in a more natural form, you could imagine this tea being freshly picked for this blend.

Malawi Peony has a nice fresh aroma to it, while steeping it I was entranced by the large leaves swirling around. I enjoyed the crisp delicate flavour of this tea immensely, it was one of the first from the November box to run out!

Tummy Rub – Tea Box

This tea is a herbal blend containing fennel, chamomile, liquorice and mint. These are ingredients known to calm you down and ease an upset stomach.

I found that the flavour of this tea wasn’t amazing for me personally, I have a bit of a dislike of liquorice flavoured tea but I really enjoyed the chamomile element. Despite not being a huge fan of the flavour I did find it calming and especially good before bedtime and I had fun trying something different so overall a positive experience 🙂

Yoga Tea – T-Tox

The stand out flavours of this tea are the white tea and a candy sweet rose flavouring. The delicate flavour of the white tea has been blended with the rose petals perfectly, I was glad the rose didn’t overpower the white tea at all.

There’s also a hint of ginger and lemongrass that add a subtle but enjoyable flavour and nettle, known for it’s antiseptic properties. I found this tea was really economical and as it’s quite fine there really was a lot of cups of tea in the sachet.

Peppermint – Cheshire Tea

This tea blend comes all the way from the USA! I’m not the biggest fan of mint tea usually, I always feel that they’re overly minty and a bit harsh tasting. This mint tea is different! The sweeter peppermint flavours really come through, creating an enjoyably fresh experience.

Mint tea is known to be beneficial for digestion, it’s great for easing tummy cramps, giving this tea a medicinal purpose too. I really appreciate that this tea is so pure, it’s literally one ingredient: peppermint!

Japanese Kukicha – Shibui Tea

This tea comes from Shibui, a tea company I’ve previously reviewed not too long ago. I loved their tea the first time round, their caramel oolong and maple walnut are two of the most memorable teas I’ve ever had! You can find my shibui tea haul review here.

I must admit that I’m quite new to kukicha, having only had it one other time from Adagio. A huge difference I noticed straight away with this kukicha is its black, despite being a green tea. Kukicha is made up of the left over stems and twiggy parts of the tea plant that aren’t used, the last kukicha I had was a hay like pale green. This kukicha from Shibui has a slightly roasted flavour which is enjoyably unique and warming, making it perfect for cold winter nights!

December Box

Gingerbread Chai – Tugboat Brew

First up in this box is Gingerbread Chai! I’ve had another Rooibos based Gingerbread Chai from one of my favourite ever tea companies, my regular readers will know who! 😉

This tea is fairly similar but has a sweeter, less spicy flavour which makes it more of a naughty dessert-like tea. As soon as you steep this tea the smell erupts in to the room, filling it with a cakey gingerbread flavour. It’s a really economical tea, with a little tea turning your water to a beautiful amber.

Winter Spice – Chash The Fine Tea Company

This blend was one I wasn’t crazy about, it had quite a medicinal smell to it with strong aniseed and fennel aromas. Upon steeping I found that it was a very unique blend with a sweet aftertaste from the liquorice, I was also happy to find that the mint wasn’t overpowering.

I’m not really a fan of herbal teas but I’d recommend this tea if you like more herbal flavours or are looking for something new to broaden your horizons!

Shiraore Green – Momo Cha Fine Teas

I loved this blend! It smells so fresh and natural while instantly turning the water a vibrant green colour. The flavour is so pure and really refreshing, it has a really delicate vibe to it with an exciting zing.

Shiaore Green is one of those blends that I’d really describe as being creamy, before being obsessed with tea I would never of understood someone referring to tea with no milk as creamy but it really is! I’d highly recommend this tea and am excited to explore the range of tea this brand has to offer!

Marzipan Rooibos – Hoogly Tea

I just don’t know where to begin with this beautiful blend! As soon as I opened the December box and saw marzipan I couldn’t wait to try it. I’m a big drinker of rooibos, I love drinking it at night instead of fruit tea all the time. I’ve found some really exciting flavours out there, this is definitely a contender for the best rooibos I’ve tried!

It smells just like battenburg cake, with a sweet cakey almond aroma, as the water hits the tea you can smell this tea throughout the house! I love the marzipan taste with the nutty rooibos, this is an epic find by Tea Tourist 😃

Citrus Ginger

I’m not a big fan of ginger tea when it’s more herbal, spicy ginger and not a sweet dessert blend. I was quite sceptical about this tea as I have a soft spot for sweet tea blends so this isn’t a tea I would usually go for.

I decided to go for it and see if this tea would surprise me! It’s definitely a blend that will wake you up in the morning, with a real zing from the citrus and instant alertness from the ginger. It was one of my least favourite teas but it was made up of good quality ingredients and definitely something different to add some extra excitement to the December box! 😊

Scotch Acorns – Nothing But Tea

The smell of this tea is heavenly, with sweet chocolate notes and high quality black tea combined beautifully. The flavour is another awesome combo, the black tea flavour is perfect with a small chocolate hint, making this tea fantastic as a guilt free treat.

It’s also a tea that is very economical when used in a tea bottle, it doesn’t over infuse too much if you leave it in and doesn’t take much tea at all to make a bottle full. I’ve recently been enjoying a new tea bottle, it’s really good quality and the neoprene handle is convenient for hot drinks 🙂

Final Thoughts

I’ve loved my experience with the TeaTourist subscription! It’s super convenient, straight through your door and with a large selection of very different teas.

You also get 6 teas each month which is really good value at this price and the amount of tea in each sachet is very generous. To make these TeaTourist teas go even further you could consider a tea bottle of some kind, I’ve written a Top 10 Tea Bottles post that’s a great place to start if you’re looking for a tea bottle.

The subscription service is perfect for tea bloggers as you’ll be served with 6 new teas to review each month and 6 new tea companies to check out 😀

Teatourist have given me an extremely generous discount code for my readers to get 30% off their first subscription box! simply use the code RUSSTEAS30 and you’ll receive the discount off your first box!

A huge thanks to TeaTourist for sending me these month’s subscriptions!

Bye for now! xXx

Virtue Ice Tea Flavoured Iced Tea Review!

14th July 2015

Recently I was sent a couple of cans of Virtue Ice Tea to sample, keep reading to find out what I thought!

I received one can of each flavour, which is Lemon and Strawberry & Peach.

The Facts

  • A Source of vitamins and minerals (Vitamin C, B-Vitamins, Magnesium and Zinc)
  • Only 63 calories per can
  • Naturally sweetened
  • No refined sugar
  • Nothing artificial
  • Natural antioxidants

The Look

The cans are really nicely presented with a slightly matte finish and nice modern fruit imagery, finished off with a coloured band at the top of each can. The cans are skinnier and taller than a coke can which makes them a really nice size in the hand, they’re a similar size to a Red Bull can.

The Taste

Lemon

The lemon flavour is really sweet and vibrant, it’s quite strong but without being sharp. What’s impressive is that this moreish sweetness has been achieved without using any refined sugar, the sweetness in Virtue Iced Tea comes from steviol and the sugars that naturally occur in the fruit used to create the lemon flavour.

The tea flavour isn’t as noticeable as it is in some other iced teas I’ve tried, which actually isn’t a bad thing, especially if you just want a sweet and fun drink but without the calories.

One thing I must say is that you must drink these chilled, have them ice cold on a hot day and it’s bliss!

Ingredients:

Water, fruit extract, citric acid, natural flavouring, tea extract, vitamins, minerals and natural sweetener.

Strawberry & Peach

The tea flavour in the strawberry & peach is much more evident, it has a slightly dry quality which is really refreshing. This iced tea has a really gorgeous sweet smell that entices you in as you take a sip. The first flavour you get is a sweet strawberry taste, which is followed up with a slightly tangy but massively fruity, peach flavour. It’s really nice to taste the tea primarily but have that sweet strawberry flavour balanced alongside it.

Again I’d say this iced tea has to be chilled, it would be a waste to drink it at room temperature when it’s this legendary chilled!

Ingredients:

Water, fruit extract, citric acid, tea extract, natural flavouring, vitamins, minerals and natural sweetener.

Where to Buy

Virture Ice Tea can be found at a good assortment of stockists, the largest high street stockist is probably WHSmith. You can also get Virtue Ice Tea online from Amazon, a pack of 24 is £24 (£1 a can!). You’ll find the Lemon here and the Strawberry & Peach here.

Overall

These iced teas really are great, it’s so difficult to find iced tea that isn’t loaded with sugar and that doesn’t leave your mouth and teeth sticky afterwards (yuck!). I was sent these teas by Rahi the creator of Virtue Iced Teas, after reading the story behind Virtue Iced Teas and trying them myself, it’s easy to appreciate the care that’s gone in to developing them. I’d definitely say give them a try, they taste great, are good for you and are extremely reasonably priced!

I’d like to say a big thank you to Rahi Daneshmand at Virtue Ice Tea for sending me the sample. I hope you’ve enjoyed this review, if you have then you’ll like my newsletter, you can sign up below!

Sparkling Whittard Summer Strawberry Lemonade Iced Tea Recipe

10th June 2015

So it’s been a bit sunny in the UK huh? Perfect time to make a sparkling Summer Strawberry iced tea with 3 simple ingredients!

The recipe is simple and only needs 3 ingredients!

Ingredients

My favourite fruit tea was always Summer Strawberry from Whitard of Chelsea which has now been discontinued but their new Strawberry Serenade works fantastically too. I decided I’d use posh lemonade to get the extra sweetness but Tesco’s own is probably just as good if you’re on a budget 😉

Lemonade

So the first thing you’re going to want to do is grab your favourite jug, hopefully as large as possible as you’ll want to be drinking this all afternoon! Either chill the lemonade bottle first or pour it in to the jug and pop it in the fridge until it’s chilled. You’ll want to fill it with the lemonade to about two thirds of the way full.

Steeping Concentrated Tea

To get the strawberry flavour you want to steep about 3 teaspoons of Strawberry Serenade in an inch or so of water in a mug so it’s really concentrated and won’t unchill (not sure that’s even a word?) the lemonade.

StrawberriesTo add more of a fresh succulent taste to the iced tea it’s great to add some fresh strawberries and it’s even greater eating them when the iced tea is finished! Just cut them in half so they’ll infuse the water. You can also freeze the strawberries and use them instead of ice, I prefer this method over ice as it doesn’t slowly water down the iced tea.

Strawberries Side View

Now you want to carefully pour the concentrated tea in to the lemonade but try it as you go so you get it the right strength. Then top it off with the strawberries and leave it in the fridge for a while to let the natural flavours from the strawberries infuse the iced tea. You can also add some sugar if you feel that the lemonade is too sharp and/or doesn’t already have enough sugar in it!

Finished Sunny

That’s the iced tea complete, only thing to do now is grab a friend, find a patch of grass and lounge around drinking it!

I hope this recipe has inspired you to make your own iced teas. You can use any fruit tea you like really but if at all possible do stay away from teabags for this approach as you’ll probably end up with red lemonade but no strawberry flavour. I used Summer Strawberry which Whittard of Chelsea have now replaced with Strawberry Serenade, which works just as well!
, feel free to experiment and let me know if you find a better flavoured iced tea! :

As always I hope you’ve loved reading this as much as I’ve loved writing it(and drinking the iced tea), you’ll get more recipes, reviews and a load more tea fun if you join my newsletter!

How Good Is Dr Stuarts Blueberry and Acai Fruit Tea?

9th June 2015

Earlier this week my sister gave me some of her Blueberry and Acai teabags from Dr Stuart’s. I don’t usually use teabags but blueberries are my favourite fruit by a mile so I figured why not give these a go?

The first thing I noticed is the packaging, it’s mainly white but with a beautiful deep purple lid and the same purple styling round the box. The teabags are individually packed and have a nice length of string with a nicely weighted piece of card, which is important to avoid the string falling in the cup (one of the main reasons I avoid teabags). The other solution to this problem is to use teabags with a product called Tea Top which I reviewed last week.

Dr Stuart's Blueberry and Acai
Teabag Packaging

As I opened the teabag the blueberry fragrance was lovely, really sweet and had that natural blueberry smell. I poured the freshly boiled water over the teabag and a purple swirl instantly began to fill my mug. The tea has a herby smell alongside the blueberry smell, looking at the ingredients I think this must either be hibiscus or rosehip, hibiscus is great for cardiovascular health which is always a plus!

Teabag

The taste is sweet but with a slight tang which surprisingly I really like. My ultimate blueberry tea has to be blueberry blaster from Whittards of Chelsea, I love it’s sweet but delicate blueberry flavour and the floral tones. I’m not sure if Dr Stuart’s Blueberry and Acai tea is on the same level but it does have an equally as interesting flavour so there’s really no reason not to drink both, after all variety is the spice of life! (cheesey enough? :p ). I wonder if the difference in the flavour isn’t so much down to the ingredients but to the difference in steeping using teabags versus loose tea, either way I like both 🙂

Tea Colour

I hope you’ve enjoyed this review and I’d love to hear your comments below, thanks so much for reading. My newsletter is a wonderful blend of tea news, giveaways and reviews and I won’t bombard you, promise! 😉

You can find this Dr Stuarts Blueberry & Acai Tea on Amazon.

You can also get a 3 pack of 45 teabags which saves you money overall 🙂
